What we do
We currently run ongoing English language courses in Greenwich, Tower Hamlets, Southwark and Wandsworth
We work in partnership with local organisations to set up sustainable courses in venues which are accessible and at the heart of the communities where we work, such as workplaces, faith institutions, schools and community centres. Continuity is important to the work we do and we are committed to the areas where we work.
Our classroom is a place where people are valued, listened to, supported and have an active involvement in the content of their classes. Our pedagogy is inspired by Paulo Freire and the work of Action Aid's Reflect ESOL Project. We see education as a tool for social change: learners are encouraged to share their experiences with the group, and critical thinking and dialogue are valued. Our courses cover more than just English language: they offer training and advice relating to everyday difficulties faced by our learners. By building group trust, confidence and ownership of the course, participants learn to use our classes as a space where they can discuss and tackle problems affecting their lives and their communities.
We believe that improved language skills enable migrants to put more into, and get more out of, life in London. EFA London exists to equip people to effect positive change in their homes, communities and workplaces.
